One-of-a-Kind Romance, starring Park Soo-young, better known as Red Velvet’s Joy, and Kim Hyun-jin, is scheduled to premiere on TVING on November 9. Reports published on October 1, including coverage by iMBC Entertainment, said the production had released material from a script reading with the principal cast.
The story begins when job seeker Gong Yu-il becomes the manager of star actor Tak Mu-i. Park plays Yu-il and Kim plays Mu-i. The series presents their developing relationship as one in which each becomes a fan of the other.
From admiring a star to understanding a person
Sports Donga’s character descriptions introduce Yu-il as someone juggling job applications and part-time work, while Mu-i carries the emotional aftermath of stalking. Shin Hyun-soo plays chef Kang Hui-su, and Kang Na-eon joins as actor Ju Da-hong.
What stands out in the premise is that the leads come to share a daily life. A celebrity seen from afar is different from a colleague encountered every day. One question for the drama is whether the manager–actor relationship offers more than proximity, becoming a reason for the characters to reassess each other.
How will the webtoon’s appeal translate to the screen?
The source material is Dubu’s webtoon of the same name. Naver Series lists it as a completed work written and illustrated by Dubu. Existing readers can watch familiar characters acquire voices and expressions; newcomers can judge whether the relationship develops convincingly.
Script-reading publicity is not enough to establish the finished drama’s quality. With stalking part of a character’s background, another question is how the series distinguishes affection from intrusion into someone’s private life.
A November 9 debut is planned
Published production details credit Kim Jin-young as director, Jeon Hyun-mi as writer and Copus Korea as producer. The announced debut is November 9, with TVING carrying the series in South Korea and overseas releases planned through Viu and Japan’s ABEMA. Whether the leads’ mutual admiration develops into a relationship between equals remains a question for the finished series.
