Black Flag Resynced’s update 1.0.8 adds New Game+, carrying over Edward’s unlocked equipment, Jackdaw upgrades and many resources while resetting parts of the world. Officers’ abilities carry over, but the officers themselves must be recruited again. Ubisoft’s product FAQ says New Game+ starts automatically after completing the main story, with no other specific action required.
Ubisoft published the patch notes on 26 October and scheduled the update for 27 October at 14:00 UTC, or 7:30 p.m. IST for players in India. It calls this the final major content update while also promising quality-of-life updates in the coming months. The immediate question for a second playthrough is therefore what progress survives, rather than whether the phrase “final” means all support has stopped.
Finish the story, then use the retained progress
Complete the main story before expecting New Game+. That is the unlock instruction given by the publisher’s FAQ; it does not describe a separate menu sequence to follow. The update is available for the game’s PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions. This guide uses the official instructions and does not claim a hands-on test of the transition or a particular storefront’s menu.
Retained character progress includes unlocked tools, tool upgrades, weapons and trinkets. Ship upgrades, officer abilities and pets also carry over. Currency, materials and trade goods are retained, while quest items are removed. Purchased store items and progress such as hideout upgrades also survive. These distinctions mean that restarting the story is not equivalent to rebuilding the entire inventory and ship from nothing.
What resets—and what the new run adds
Some of that retained strength still has to be used in a reset world. Officers must be recruited again even though their abilities carry over; forts must be retaken and map fog returns. Ubisoft also says New Game+ increases difficulty with more elite enemies and stronger ships, across up to five New Game+ cycles. A familiar map and upgraded vessel therefore do not make the next run identical to the first.
New Game+ introduces Escudos, earned through challenges and by looting previously collected chests again. Players can also exchange Reales for Escudos at General Stores, while goods previously priced in Reales retain their vendor costs. For installation planning, Ubisoft lists downloads of 15.5 GB on Xbox Series X|S, 4.5 GB on PS5, 4.3 GB for PC and 2.1 GB for Steam. These are the announced download sizes, not a calculation of free storage required.
A final content update with further fixes planned
The additional Nightmare difficulty is another choice in the update, with harsher combat conditions. It should not be confused with the automatic increase in challenge described for repeated New Game+ cycles. Likewise, “final major content update” describes the scale of this release: the same official notice explicitly says quality-of-life work will continue in the coming months.
Before beginning another run, finish the story and distinguish what is retained from what must be done again: equipment and ship strength persist, while officers, forts and map exploration need renewed progress. Players returning mainly for the story can plan around that reset; those seeking a harder run can weigh the new difficulty options. The next useful update to watch is Ubisoft’s promised quality-of-life work, especially any correction to carry-over or progression behavior.
