KIA Tigers scored three runs in the top of the ninth to beat LG Twins 6–5 at Jamsil, Seoul, on October 4. Trailing 3–5 after eight innings, KIA drew level through RBI hits by Kim Tae-gun and Lee Ho-yeon before Harold Castro’s sacrifice fly brought in the winning run. The official KBO scoreboard confirms the game is final.

This was a different game from KIA’s 5–4 win on October 3, decided by Kim Sun-bin’s bunt. Both ended with KIA winning by one run after scoring in its last offensive inning; on October 4, however, KIA had to erase a two-run deficit. The key replay sequence runs from LG’s lead in the bottom of the eighth through KIA’s three runs in the top of the ninth.

LG regained the lead in the eighth

LG went ahead on Austin’s two-run home run in the first. Park Min’s two-run hit pulled KIA level in the second, before Lee Jae-won’s solo home run restored LG’s lead to 3–2 in the fourth. The KBO inning-by-inning record shows neither team scored in innings five through seven.

Na Sung-bum’s RBI hit made it 3–3 in the top of the eighth. Park Dong-won then hit a two-run home run in the bottom half to put LG 5–3 ahead. The end-of-eighth score favored LG, but KIA still had one offensive inning left.

The ninth: one behind, level, then ahead

Kim Tae-gun’s RBI hit cut KIA’s deficit to 4–5. Pinch-hitter Lee Ho-yeon then tied the game at 5–5, and Castro’s sacrifice fly supplied the next run. TVING’s official video list separates these into the run that cut the deficit, the equalizer and the go-ahead play.

A sacrifice fly can produce a run even when the batter is out, if a runner reaches home on the play. Castro’s contribution here came after the score was already level; it was the winning run, not the tying hit. LG failed to score in the bottom of the ninth, sealing KIA’s one-run victory.
