For the October 9 Tamil Nadu bypoll results, use the Election Commission of India’s October assembly by-election portal and select MADURANTAKAM (35) or DHARAPURAM (101). At the portal’s 08:51 am IST update, both showed “Counting in Progress”. No winner was established by that screen. Check the live timestamp before treating a headline or a leading candidate as the final result.

These are the October by-elections for two Tamil Nadu Assembly seats, following vacancies caused by the resignations of Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama. ECI’s September 7 schedule set polling for October 6 and counting for October 9. They should not be confused with the state’s earlier general-election results, which also appear in searches for Tamil Nadu results.

Choose the October assembly result, then the correct seat

Open the official portal linked below and use the assembly by-election view, not an older general-election page or the parliamentary by-election view. The October page includes seats from several states and union territories. Match both the Tamil Nadu label and the constituency number: Madurantakam 35, Dharapuram 101.

Both seats are listed as Scheduled Caste reserved constituencies in ECI’s schedule. Some secondary coverage labels Dharapuram differently; the official schedule is the basis here. A similarly named page or a summary of several by-elections is not enough to confirm the right contest. Constituency name, number and election month should agree.

Progress and a certified result are different stages

The ECI portal says the displayed information is entered by Returning Officers at counting centres. An update can change while counting continues. Our observed landing-page cards showed progress status rather than a final candidate vote table, so this guide does not supply an unverified leader, margin or winner.

ECI identifies Form 20 as the source of final constituency data. When detailed results become available, compare the round or completion status with the candidate total and the latest timestamp. A temporary lead, or a screen last updated earlier in the morning, should not be presented as a certified outcome.

Use the source and preserve the time of your check

Return to the official October portal, select your seat, and refresh the displayed information when a new update is available. If only a progress card is shown, keep that limitation visible when sharing an update. Use news liveblogs for context while retaining the ECI result as the reference for the declared outcome.

The schedule says the election process is to be completed by October 11; that does not make every interim count final. The next useful information is the completed constituency result and final data. This guide should be updated on the same URL as those become available, rather than adding competing pages with different winner claims.
